Allāhu lā ilāha illā huwa'l-ḥayyu'l-qayyūm. Lā ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa lā nawm. Lahu mā fi's-samāwāti wa mā fi'l-arḍ…
Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth… His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
A shield against harm. Many recite it after each prayer and on lying down to sleep.

Before Sleep
Source: Qur'an 2:255 — Recommended after every obligatory prayer and before sleep (taʿqībāt — Mafātīḥ al-Jinān). Imam Ali (a) called it the chief of the verses of the Qur'an.
He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed; He is the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. He is Allah… the Sovereign, the Pure, the Source of Peace, the Granter of Security… To Him belong the most beautiful names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth glorifies Him, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
The closing verses of al-Ḥashr, dense with the Divine Names. A favoured morning-and-evening litany. Full recitation is available on the Recite & Listen page.
